Known for its expansive waterfront, Riverside began as a fishing and farming community in the late 1600s. Now home to celebrities like Frank and Kathie Lee Gifford, the area is known for its upscale living and modern amenities, while retaining a small-town, quaint New England atmosphere. With a population of 7,200, Riverside, a section of the town of Greenwich, is picturesque – from its waterfront properties to large, charming single-family homes to condominiums.
The area spans across the Post Road, and is home to many who are employed in the finance industry. Riverside also has a strong artist community and is filled with writers, painters and musicians.
Shopping and Dining
The shopping and dining experiences in Riverside are located mainly along Route 1. However, Ada’s Variety Shop on Riverside Avenue has long been a stop for commuters looking for a newspaper or snack before boarding the train for work. Before former owner Ada Cantavero’s death in 2008, the convenience store was also a frequent stop for schoolchildren looking for a bag full of penny candies from the shop’s namesake.
Other longtime establishments include Valbella, an Italian eatery, Baang Café and Bar, which offers Asian-inspired cuisine, and DiMare Pastry Shop in the Riverside Shopping Center, where visitors can enjoy a tasty treat or place special orders for birthday parties and other events. A&P Fresh grocery store is also located in the shopping center, with Starbucks Coffee Company, Coco Nail Spa, Hunan Café and more. Another specialty shop, Balducci’s, offers gourmet food gifts, housewares and more.
Chain stores such as Walgreens, CVS/Pharmacy and Staples offer the necessities.
